NZI Sevens Day One Action

The NZI Sevens kicked off to a great start! Wellington turned on the summer weather, the fans dressed up in everything you could imagine and the pool play saw some thrilling match ups.

New Zealand won all three of their pool play matches beating Wales, Niue and South Africa and finished top of Pool A.

Competition will be tough on day two as Fiji looked in top form as they topped Pool B. The flying Fijians had three convincing wins over Scotland, Papua New Guinea and Australia, beating them all by at least 30 points.

Top try scoring honours had to go to Fiji after those performances on day one, with a total of 19 tries and only 2 tries scored against them. New Zealand weren’t far behind with 15 tries.

Defending NZI Sevens champions England finished top of Pool C and Samoa placed first in pool D.

Fans enjoyed the parade of nations as the teams took a walk around Westpac Stadium and the fabulous entertainers kept the party going with a melody of hits finishing with everybody on their feet and dancing to the Black Eyed Peas, I’ve Got a Feeling.
